Coffee… tea… independent v the big chains…

Independent coffee shops versus the chains…

I’m am constantly despairing over the number of takeouts we see in both of our small local outlets… and often wonder what we can do to increase our takeout coffee sales… and I’ve tried all sorts, including vouchers, promotions and discounts through social media… but nothing really works… people have habits, and we see many regulars who we are their first choice and valued customers… so what should and could we do and why are we different??

1. We are a family small business on the high street who employ local people… like many others I no

2. We love our coffee and teas and everyone is made by us and served in our fully biodegradable cups (and the lids are too… ) and we’ve been spending a lot more on these for years… way before any talk of the latte levy… why because it’s our ethos and the right thing to do…

3. Our coffee is sourced and bought from a local chap, small business to business sales leads to growth

4. We made the decision that we needed to carry on the ethos and start using a local farmer for our milk… this is in excess of double the price per pint, and we have mainly absorbed this cost with just a few pence been added to our prices…

5. YES WE ARE MORE EXPENSIVE than the chain, but why is this?? As I said the milk is sourced locally from the farmer, but we have now become a really good customer to another local family run business… and I 100% believe this was a good decision and we will continue to do this regardless…

So what would make me happy and help pay the bills… friends and family, when you next go for a coffee just think about the independent, the family business in the street, because that £2.20 means much more than that…
